Jointly organised by Karen Bradley M.P. and the Werrington Community Volunteers Group the celebration was universally praised and well received, paving the way to make this a regular event.
By using this as the beginning of an idea exchange it is hoped that it will grow and by networking kindle the formation of new groups covering an even wider range of attainment in the community.
Moorlands House in Leek saw the launch of a ground-breaking event which celebrated the many achievements of local volunteers and honoured those whose attainments had reached the highest level.
The event celebrated the work of local volunteers throughout Staffordshire Moorlands who form the backbone of community aspiration and provide every town and village with a readily available resource of experience, ability and willingness.
By joining volunteers themselves can gain a new lease of life with the self-satisfaction of teamwork, making new friends, using previously learned skills and making new ones and enjoy seeing the benefits to the community blossom as achievements develop.
Karen Bradley said that she was delighted with the event and the eagerness with which volunteer groups booked stands to quickly fill the venue and commented – “It is evident that the volunteer foundation throughout the Moorlands is alive and thriving. What is particularly impressive is the enthusiasm to develop in all areas from large towns to small villages with volunteer togetherness forming a positive and vibrant neighbourhood for all ages.”
“Our thanks go to all those who helped to make this such a success, to our sponsors for their support and to the Werrington Volunteers for outlining their format for this occasion”.
An important part of the event was to reward the judge’s choice in nine different categories with an inscribed glass trophy and framed certificate presented by Admiral Sir Trevor Soar KCB OBE (Deputy Lieutenant) and Karen Bradley M.P. who are pictured below with Wendy Sandbrook, Wellbeing Coordinator.
