On Friday 10th November, the previous renowned Burton Albion Manager, Nigel Clough, will be returning to the Club’s ground at Pirelli Stadium to take part in YMCA Burton’s annual Sleepout event. Football legend Clough left the Club in 2020 after a successful two spells over 15 years as Burton Albion Manager, gaining them a club promotion to the Championship for the first time in their history. After having recently been voted into Burton Albion’s Hall of Fame, Clough will be a welcome addition to the charity’s local fundraising event.

Nigel will be joined by over 100 other participants who are all giving up their bed for one night to raise vital funds and awareness for the charity. As the night quickly approaches, Nigel Clough discusses why he will be supporting the local cause that aims to tackle homelessness in the community:
“I am looking forward to returning to Pirelli stadium next week as it always holds a special place in my heart and to be there as part of the YMCA Burton Sleepout makes it even more special. I hope to be able to raise awareness and funds so they can continue with their life-changing work.”
The 10th of November will be also be an important date for YMCA Burton and their CEO, Paul Laffey, as they will both be celebrating their 15th year of Sleepout this year. Since YMCA Burton held their first Sleepout event in 2008 initially at the original Burton Rugby Club in the Burton town centre, Paul Laffey has also been participating in the event every year.

Paul said: “I am joining a number of amazing people by signing up to the YCMA Sleepout on the 10th November. You have two options, Pirelli stadium and the graveyard at St Modwens church, please consider joining me!”

The event moved to the Pirelli Stadium in 2011 and the charity introduced their Extreme event at St Modwen’s Church in 2013. As demand for YMCA Burton’s various services continues to significantly increase, they are hoping to raise £50,000 to support their work in the local community. Tickets for the event will be £10 for an adult and £5 for under 18s. YMCA Burton are also offering box sponsorship to businesses looking to support the event.
