Staffordshire's Co-production Promise

Welcome to Staffordshire’s Co-production Promise.

In 2022, Staffordshire Council of Voluntary Youth Services (SCVYS) was asked to support the creation of a Staffordshire Co-production Promise for the Children and Families system, as well as creating a toolkit to support those people responsible for providing services to enable them to do co-production well.

The Promise needed to include a local definition of co-production and some shared commitments to improve the experience of support as well as the outcomes from that support for families.

The content of this Promise has been co-produced over an 18 month period with local children, young people, parents, carers, adults and professionals from across the support system.  One small example of this is the logo you see on the Promise which was created by a young person from Lichfield District.

Take a look at the short introductory video to find out more about Staffordshire’s new Co-production Promise.

Support for the Workforce

As part of the process in developing the Co-production Promise, we have created a practitioner toolkit to support professionals who are responsible for providing services, enabling them to do co-production well.  To supplement the toolkit, we have also  produced some short videos designed to increase understanding and give practitioners the confidence to try co-production, perhaps in small and specific areas to begin with.

The videos can also be used within team based settings to initiate a discussion around where and how individuals can begin to take a co-production approach to elements of their work.

Video 1:  Starting a conversation around Co-production

Learn more about the local definition of Co-production, what this means in practice, and key themes around sharing power, as equally as possible, and seeing people as experts and citizens, not patients.

Video 2:  Co-production in the context of Engagement

Learn about where Co-production sits within the Ladder of Engagement and the different Levels of Co-production that exist, the Models of Engagement and ultimately why Co-production is the gold standard.

Pledge your Support

Pledge your personal and/or organisational support for the commitments contained in the Promise. If we all use it, we believe this Promise can drive positive change in culture and in practice and in doing so can ensure that support systems are as good as they can be and make life better for local children, young people and families.

Case Studies

Here you can view some case study examples of where services have chosen to implement a co-production approach at strategic, collective and individual levels, to improve the support provided to individuals and families in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

If you would like to find out more or if you have decided to give co-production a go within your service area, we’d love to hear about your work and showcase it to others in a short case study. Please contact Phil Pusey at: phil@staffscvys.org.uk.
