
The National Youth Charity V, is running a FREE programme called 'Summer of a Lifetime' in partnership with National Citizen Service and the Dame Kelly Homes Trust - http://vinspired.com/summer-of-a-lifetime which is aimed at young people in year 11 who have just completed their GCSEs and who are up for a challenge over their summer.
It will be one of the most motivational and rewarding experiences of a young person's life. Summer of a Lifetime gives young people the opportunity to gain confidence develop skills meet new people, make a difference to their local community, be challenged have fun!
The National Citizen Service Programme is a Big Society initiative, supporting young people from all backgrounds to work together, take on new challenges, have fun and engage in their communities - making lifelong friends along the way. It is a free programme and all insurance, accommodation, transport and food costs are covered.
SCVYS in partnership with three other organisations in Staffordshire are working together and covering a specific area of the county to recruit. We are recruiting from South Staffordshire and Cannock. Our partners are running it in other districts within the county. If you are interested in the programme and live elsewhere in the county, please contact SCVYS office for information on programmes being run in your area. (Residential weeks may differ)
The SCVYS NCS ‘Summer of a Lifetime’ programme is a structured programme which consists of five distinct phases:
Phase 1: Two-day induction event. Young people will meet their team - Will run between 25th -29th June 2012
Phase 2: 'Away' Residential. This will take place at PGL Outdoor Education Centre in Shropshire and will focus on team building and challenge as well as mixing with other young people from different parts of the UK (2nd -6th July 2012)
Phase 3: The ‘home’ residential. This will take place on the canals of South Staffordshire where we will live on Narrow Boats for four nights and will concentrate on participant’s building skills on themes of personal and social development (9th - 13th July 2012)
Phase 4: Young people will research and design a Community Social Action Project in consultation with the local community in smaller teams (16th - 29th July 2012)
Phase 5: Young people will deliver their chosen project within the community. This phase is then concluded with an award presentation to reflect all that the young people have achieved during the summer (30 hours over a 3-4 week period)
