In 2009, SCVYS through its member organisations, delivered ?1.7 million worth of children and youth work delivery across the diverse County of Staffordshire. Over 33,000 children and young people benefitted, and almost 5,000 volunteers were involved.
SCVYS has also managed one of the best performing V Involved projects in the country over the last 3 years. During the last three years we have worked with 303 local charitable and voluntary groups to create 14635 volunteering opportunities suitable for young people and we have brokered 1266 young people into 3534 opportunity placements.
SCVYS has adopted the 4 core values of youth work. In addition, we have included aspiring towards interdependence as a value.
Informal Education – SCVYS supports and provides opportunities for the general personal and social development of young people primarily in informal settings. When delivering in formal settings such as schools, etc. an informal approach will be adopted. Youth work is not primarily about amusement or just “keeping kids off the streets” but about encouraging and provoking learning in its broadest sense through events, experiences and programmes.
Voluntary Participation – Any engagement with children & young people, or indeed member groups and other partnerships is based on their willingness to get involved. The building of positive influential relationships is a key criteria for success.
Equality of opportunity – SCVYS is about accessibility for all, and is actively committed to removing barriers to participation on all fronts.
Empowerment – Children and young people are “worked with” rather than “done to”, and in doing so are encouraged to maximise their personal potential in every area of life. This requires an inherent acceptance of and belief in the potential of all young people.
Aspiring towards Interdependence – Any natural growth cycle includes stages of dependency and independence, with the destination point always being interdependence. We define this as a maturity of our own identity, a clarity of values and purpose resulting in a security in any collaboration with partners.

Involving and empowering Young People.
(Including involving young people in the governance of SCVYS)
To promote good practice, efficiency and effectiveness of its member organisations for the benefit of children and young people in the West Midlands and in particular, the local government area of Staffordshire and the efficient application of resources for charitable purposes for the benefit of children and young people. This will be done without distinction of sex, sexuality, disability, race, political or religious opinion.
To support and develop work with children and young people, and their organisations so as to enable them to develop their physical, intellectual and spiritual capacities to become fulfilled and responsible members of society.
To improve the quality of life of children and young people through the provision of activities, facilities and information relating to training, recreation, health and independent living.
To enable effective participation by children and young people at all levels by ensuring that children and young people's voice, concerns and issues are represented wherever it is most appropriate.
